Day 127 - Katoomba

Hot breakfasts are so welcome! Checked out of Carabella at 10am, caught the train to Katoomba. Succumbed to impulse and bought a cycling mag while waiting at one station. The hostel is housed in a 1920s building, an absolutely gorgeous interior - so warm and welcoming. No TV room, just a fire and lots of couches. Big kitchen, nice beds. Is it the mountain vibe?

Staff recommended a particular walk, so I set off solo. Nice to have some solitude after the last few days. Down, down, down a long descent of steps and stairs, into the valley, along the Federal Pass. Under the Three Sisters, climbing again at Katoomba Falls. The scenery could be Wicklow. It's a little disappointing, but coming out of the valley gives amazing views, across a canopy of green - giant ferns like starfish, popping up at the base of the cliff. The falls are low, two fine misty sprays the only feed. One of the trails leads to a natural platform, with a sheer drop. There is a view across to the Three Sisters, who just cannot compare to the Olgas.
